Sounds odd. He could just approach the door and ring the bell. You're expecting him, so whats the issue? Strangers ring my bell all the time, they don't feel the need to sit outside if they want to talk to me. Not many people want to talk to me though. The ones that do are in the basement, but all they ever say is ';Let me out';, ';Untie me';. They don't realise how good they got it.

I would say its odd but maby he was not sure what to do, to just go in, maby, maby not, I would have gone to the door and knocked but maby he just wanted to see you before he goes in as it was his first time to go to your house.
